A Case of Lichen Aureus

Abstract
Lichen aureus is one of the rarest of the pigmented and purpuric dermatoses. The disease consists of lichenoid papules and plaques with a golden to purplish color, and the microscopic sections of skin reveal a dense bandlike infiltrate that
composed
mainly of lymphocytes and histiocytes, of ten with extravasation of red cells.
We describe a case of lichen aureus occurring in a 45-year-old male, who presented with 2¡¿3cm sized round, grouped, purple colored papules surrounded by gold to brown colored hue on the right calf. There was no associated symptoms. The
microscopic
sections from the lesion showed a dense bandlike lymphohistiocytic infiltrate in the upper dermis, which was separated from the epidermis by a grenz zone. In the dermis, extravasation of red blood cells and hemosiderin pigment as well as
siderophages
were observed.
